Could the Right Acting Schools Change Your Life?
Have you ever longed to stand centre stage, addressing your audience as you clearly enunciate your learnt lines, packing each phrase full of appropriate emotion? Have you ever dreamed of a rapturous applause from your adoring fans as your performance draws to its close? Have you ever longed to see yourself on TV on your favourite show? There is nothing quite like the feeling of acting, and whether you wish to perform in public, or simply to get to know other people and learn a few skills at an acting school, there is nothing to lose and a world to gain. Believe it or not, finding the right acting schools could change your life in more ways than one.
You don’t need to live in London to find some suitable acting classes
What will I learn in an acting school?
Different acting schools offer different course outlines, covering a range of different topics. Some schools will concentrate more on developing your talents for television, while others may specialise in theatre. Still other classes will just develop your acting talents and allow you to progress into whatever form of acting you desire. You can even study acting or drama at a university such as the University of Bristol or the University of Exeter.
Although it would be impossible to cover what every acting course in the country could cover, there are certainly some fundamentals that any reputable institution will introduce you too. Let’s consider some of these acting essentials now:
- Voice. As an actor, your voice will convey many different emotions. It will also need to be heard, potentially from the back of a crowded venue without microphone amplification. Therefore acting schools will introduce you into the principles of breathing, throwing your voice, stage whispers and more. Some courses may even offer singing lessons.
- Body. Don’t ever underestimate the importance of your body when acting; it is one of your main tools. Different movement will have a different effect on your audience, after all, no one wants to sit and watch you stand perfectly still, reading lines nervously for several hours. To understand how to fully utilise your body, and for potential theatre acting, some acting schools will also offer dance classes.
- Improvisation. The majority of acting schools will thrust you into situations where you are forced to improvise. Games and acting exercises will force you to ‘think outside the box’ and learn how to cope in a situation where you don’t have a script in front of you.

Obviously acting courses will cover much more than these three topics, but as important elements within any acting career
How can I find the best acting schools?
With so many different acting schools around it could be difficult to discover the best one for your unique needs. You may feel daunted by the choices available to you, particularly if you live in a large city like London. Fortunately, there have been many people in the same place as you, and many of them will offer valuable feedback regarding their acting courses.
In searching for feedback from certain acting institutions, look out for the following:
- What did the acting school teach? Was it a useful course to attendees? Is it in the right field of acting for you?
- Did the concepts covered in the course help in the real world with acting auditions
- Where are the lessons located? Will it involve travel?
Hearing reviews from previous and current students as to the pros and cons of each acting school could really help to make your mind up, and help you to find the very best acting school to start to change your life today.
